Photography is one of the most recently developed mediums of image production, and has evolved at a phenomenal rate since its birth from a lengthy and complicated process accessible to the privileged few to become the vast and multi-faceted industry it is today. Our world as we know it is saturated with a wealth of photographic images which we have come to naturalise as part of our daily lives. The photographic way of looking is something which exists alongside visual experience as an accepted and largely unchallenged viewing position.
The projects displayed here are each distinct bodies of work, however they share a common aim; to explore through their development how we relate and identify with photographs as part of our visual culture. The thought processes and concepts which photographic practice encompasses are an intrinsic part of the work, and in each project I embark upon are very central to the ideas and research which I engage in.
I use both digital and analogue photographic techniques in the production of my artwork and the methods themselves of creating images are of equal importance in exploring and developing a project as well as the final aesthetic of a piece.
